about this intervention

Supporting needy children

We have many children in the Child / Youth Sponsorship programme where we support needy children with school fees and requirements and often medical expenses in times of crisis.

Nearly all the children come from single-parent homes. We are supporting 53 children and youths both in Nursery / Primary, Secondary schools, Vocational institutions and Universities. We do home visits and liaise with local schools.

Main activities include:

  • • Provision of school fees and scholastic requirements to vulnerable children in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.
  • • Career guidance and counselling; the children are given support in the various careers they hope to pursue through workshops, and trainings.
  • • Monitoring children’s performance and attendance in schools.
Emphasis is put on ensuring that the children study well by encouraging them through regular school visits.
  • • Conducting home visit to monitor and support the families, instil hope and togetherness, as well as learning from each other about challenges that
need to be faced and how to tackle them.
  • • Ensuring access to medical help as/when the need arises.
  • • Carrying out a mentorship program with young people.
  • • Empowering of sponsored young people and their families through provision of funds for setting up small businesses to help sustain livelihoods in their communities.
